After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he was drawn to the Dominican Republic, more precisely to Puerto Plata, around 1855. The Brugal LEYENDA 5 Years Old is aged in American bourbon white oak barrels and then in Spanish red oak barrels in which sherry matured.
